Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger root, sliced
- 1 tablespoon dried peppermint leaves
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds, lightly crushed
- 1 tablespoon dried chamomile flowers
- 4 cups filtered water
- 1–2 tablespoons raw honey, to taste
- ½ teaspoon fresh lemon juice (optional)
Instructions
- Slice fresh ginger root into thin pieces, leaving the peel intact unless you prefer milder flavor.
- Measure all dried herbs into a small bowl, keeping them separate until steeping begins.
- Fill your kettle with filtered water and set to boil.
- Pour four cups of boiling water into your teapot or large mug.
- Add sliced ginger to the hot water first, allowing it to steep for one minute to warm through.
- Add dried peppermint leaves, lightly crushed fennel seeds, and dried chamomile flowers to the water.
- Cover your pot or mug with a lid to trap aromatic compounds and steep for five to seven minutes.
- Strain the brewed tummy tea recipe through a fine mesh strainer into serving cups.
- Stir in raw honey and fresh lemon juice if desired while the tummy tea recipe remains hot.
Notes
Crush fennel seeds gently with a mortar and pestle immediately before adding to maximize their aromatic oils. Keep your tummy tea recipe covered while steeping to trap volatile compounds. Add honey after brewing rather than during steeping to preserve beneficial enzymes. Drink warm for best results.
